Publix 7/18

Where is July going???  Passing me right by apparently.  Well, I spent last week in the mountains of North Carolina with some gorgeous weather---well, after it rained cats and dogs the first day we were there.  But, that made for some fun tubing!  Anyhow, I pretty much took the week off from shopping, but wanted to get a trip in before this sale week ended.  So in between unpacking, working, unpacking, laundry, and unpacking some more...I made a quick Publix run!

I was so happy to see the Dropps on BOGO as I'd just done the giveaway, and the company had sent me some coupons...perfect timing!  Also, CF cereal hasn't been on sale in forever it seems like....my husband has actually had to eat non-organic cereal a few times! (gasp) I think he'll survive. :)

Publix 6/30

Yes, I went to Publix yesterday...and today...but I knew alot of the good deals would disappear quickly this week with such a good ad, and in fact, the Carefree liners that were going to be free were already wiped clean at noon today....which infuriates me, but that's what's begun happening.  This is a bigger trip than I've made in a quite a long time, but I still saved a good bit.  I had a couple of .55 off the goldfish that I'd printed, but after taking a peek, I found the last few .75/1 peelies...so I used those and left my .55 cent ones for the next person.  I am super excited about the cheap pineapple...and to my surprise I could buy it cored and peeled for the same price as a whole one!  Talk about some work saved on my part...

I had planned to only stop by Publix and get some toilet paper and sugar since I happened to finally find a Summer Savings booklet last week at a Publix I just happened to visit...but my impulsive taste for chips took over.  Oh, and blueberries were a pretty good price.  I still did fairly well, but I also plan on making a bigger than normal trip either tomorrow or Friday when the new ad comes out because it's finally got more than 2 things on it that are worth buying to me.

Publix 6/13

One of my friends/old colleagues who lives half a mile from my house knows I shop at Publix all the time....and she also knows I never get $5/30 purchase coupons, even though she gets them every week!  How fair is that?  Seriously, she lives right up the road from me, but in a different zip code.  Not cool, Publix.  What is cool though is that she gave me her coupon this week.  :)  I don't normally buy $30 worth of food at one time, but if I had the $5 off, I figured I might as well get some produce!  I didn't realize the price of eggs went up .30 since a few weeks ago....ouch.  I didn't have alot of coupons for this trip, but still came out pretty well...those Klondike bars just kept calling my name.....

Publix Penny Day: 6/2

I wasn't wild about the penny item being the Publix cheese singles because those are highly processed...but I guess every week can't be something I'll love.  Those singles sure do make a good grilled cheese every now and then though!  I got credited an extra dollar because the poor cashier couldn't override one of the Cheerios coupon, so she just gave it to me, even after the supervisor put it in manually.  So basically I got an extra dollar off, making one of the boxes a nickel!  I think I'm going to donate a box because these are big boxes and I can't eat that many Cheerios!  In this trip by combining competitor coupons with the manufacturer's, I was able to get some really cheap organic products!

How Far Can a Gift Card Really Go?

As a thank you for helping a friend out a few months ago, I received a $100 gift card to Publix.  She wanted to get a gift card for a massage and I said no, I'd actually rather have one to somewhere like Publix where I can stretch that thing!  Yes, I know, I'm a grocery geek.  But also, I wanted to see how far I could really stretch it too!  I bought as I regularly do, so lots of these trips included expensive items like organic eggs and cereal, produce, etc.

Turns out, $100 can go a long way in the land of couponing.  Here is a breakdown of how far I made the card go:

FMV of items bought:                              Amount actually paid:
Trip #1:                            $45.31                                                           $17.73
Trip #2:                              46.38                                                             15.85
Trip #3:                              48.31                                                             14.74
Trip #4:                              27.21                                                             10.06
Trip #5:                              16.33                                                             7.53
Trip #6:                              8.14                                                               6.14
Trip #7:                              31.49                                                             14.75
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Total:                                 223.17                                                            86.80

Now, before you start ragging on me about my math....I know the amount actually paid via gift card should equal 100....and I thought I'd kept up with all the receipts...but apparently I lost one along the way.  But, you get the idea.  I estimate I bought about $250 worth of stuff, and only "paid" (except not really!) $100.  So next time you get a gift card, try and see how far you can stretch it!

Publix 5/23

I must be well-stocked because I feel like I haven't bought much at Publix lately.  Granted, our local farmer's market has opened, and we're trying to buy more produce that's local and/or organic, so alot of my budget has gone to fresh bread (with no preservatives!), local peaches, organic fresh eggs, etc.  Sometimes I get sticker shock, but I think I'm adjusting...$4 per dozen for eggs doesn't seem quite so bad anymore....well, at the market anyway!

I did make a trip today to use my razor rain checks and get some overage ($1.49 all told) to go towards some produce.  Oh, and I might have picked up some ice cream because it's back up to stinkin' 90 degrees every day!

Publix: Benefits to Watching the Register!

I wasn't planning on making a trip to Publix on Thursday because I wasn't supposed to get the AJC with the penny item coupon, and I'd had to stop by Wednesday to get some milk and OJ already.  But, for some reason I got the AJC on Thursday with the penny item q, and since it was a "good" penny item, I decided I'd go pick up the few things I was going to get over the weekend anyway!  So I did...and I got paid to go!
Thanks to overage from the noodles (which are being donated), and Whole Foods coupons (which my Publix still considers a competitor after the new policy has become public this week--woohoo!), I only paid $2.45 OOP to begin with.  But, as I watched the cataloupe go by the register, it rang up at $2.50....and I knew I'd seen them advertised for $1.99 in the weekly flyer.  After all, that's why I was getting one!  So needless to say, I paid and had my husband sit tight while I grabbed a flyer to leaf through and doublecheck the price.  Sure enough, there in big bold numbers was the price of $1.99.  So I went back to the produce to check the price there....and sure enough there it said 2/$5.  The difference was that the advertised cataloupe's were from Florida and the ones they had out were from Honduras. But, there were none out from Florida anywhere....so, I thought it worth it to go ask customer service if they would honor the advertised price, even though it was from a different location.  I was just expecting (if anything) I'd get the difference of .50 cents back.  As it turned out, the lady quoted their policy of if an item rings up wrong, you get it for free (on the first one anyway), so she gave me back the $2.50, plus .05 in tax!  So after paying the $2.45 originally, I got back that plus .10 cents!  So what's the lesson learned from all of this?  Always watch the register like a hawk!

Publix Penny Day

In my cart it looked like I had alot of stuff...but I think it was because the TP and paper towels took up so much room!  haha  I plan to buy more before this sale is over, but because of Easter, this sale will run a few days long than normal. I am loving the mozzarella cheese for $1.25 after coupon!  Notice that 5 out of the 13 coupons I used on this trip are from Publix booklets...they really do come in hand, especially when stacked with manufacturer coupons.  Let's just hope they continue to bless us with them after watching all the crazy people on TLC's new show, Extreme Couponing!

Publix 3/8

In a few short weeks my husband and I are going to visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios.  I am stinkin' excited.  We decided while we're down there that we'd like to get involved in some type of mission work....just because we're on vacation doesn't mean we can't help other people.  And, we just thought it sounded like a neat idea to help out somewhere different than close to home.

So, since one of the things I enjoy doing is buying products at a great price and donating them, we've been researching food banks in Orlando that we can help donate to.  The beginning of my donation starts with most of the Prego in the picture. I will keep 2 or 3, but I still have lots of coupons that I bought on Ebay, and I'm trying to decide if I want to go back tomorrow and use them up before the sale ends.  I used 5 today on the 10 Prego...each was $1/2 and the Prego was BOGO.

Pillsbury, anybody? Anybody? Bueller?

So I know this looks like alot of biscuits....because it is.  But we like biscuits. Don't judge.  We do make them from scratch alot, but you just can't beat the tastiness of a Grands biscuit....and the cleanliness of not getting flour everywhere while making them. :)  Also, I couldn't get to the 20 items for the Viva Italia sale to get the $5 off....I wanted to get more veggies, but there are no coupons out for them right now except the one I used, so I just HAD to buy more biscuits!

An * indicates that the items were part of the get $5/20 items sale

Publix TP!

Ok, so one of my favorite penny items is the Greenwise toilet paper.  1) Because you really can't get tp for a penny anywhere else and 2) it's from recycled materials and breaks down easily...but it's still fairly soft!  So I decided to make a small trip this morning to get my tp and a few other items...I'll make a big trip this weekend for all of the Viva Italia sale items...but I'm holding out for a CVS $5/25 coupon to appear since I didn't get the Publix one that floated around everywhere but here this week!

Thankfully, my Publix gladly takes Target coupons and thanks to my friend who somehow got lucky and gets the Target mailers, I had many Target coupons that matched up with the sale this week!  She saved me a couple dollars this morning alone...thanks Rebekah!

Publix 2/10

I spent a little more out of pocket (OOP) than I usually do this week, but I also got some higher priced items that I don't buy as often...including a whole chicken that will last at least 4 meals for the 2 of us! The navel oranges are a great price this week: .99/lb, and even though the price of Starbuck's ice cream went up in the new year (as did other things I've noticed), I went ahead and bought some for Valentine's Day since I hadn't gotten any in a while...and each pint was only a $1.  How could I resist??

Publix Penny Day

Thursday was a big shopping day!  Target, Publix, Kroger & Rite-Aid!  I just picked up some free (after SCR) contact solution at RA, and a few free Reece's (yum!) at Target, took the last Mega trip to Kroger, and of course stopped by Publix.....my favorite place to go on Thursdays!

The penny item wasn't great...it was the salines, in case you didn't figure out which item was the Publix name brand in the picture....and we don't eat many of those anyway unless sickness hits.  So, I'm thinking they might go in the donation pile...trying to decide if we'd actually eat them or not...

The Alexia All-Natural fries I screwed up on...I thought they were 2/$6, but apparently that was something "boxed" which of course I saw in the ad when I tried to point it out the cashier. (I failed to read the box and size details earlier!)  Needless to say I dropped my argument, knowing instantly I was the one in the wrong.  But if I took them out of the transaction, I was short a few dollars and wouldn't have been able to use my Family Dollar $5/25...so since I did thankfully have a coupon for them which lowered them a bit...I went ahead and got them.  Plus, they are the only way I'll eat sweet potatoes!  So I consider them "healthy." :) No judging, please.

PEANUT BUTTER!!!!!!!!!!

So 2 weeks ago exactly, I knew that PP peanut butter would go on sale on 1/6...so I went ahead and ordered my coupons..but there was also a $1/1 Publix PP coupon out that I could stack...making each jar give me .75 overage!  Well....then we had snow...and ice...and the city shut down.  So no mail came.  The coupons should've been here on time, but they came a whole week late...and although my Publix takes lots of coupons, expired (even store ones) ones they do not...they explained they couldn't punch in the LU# because the register wouldn't take it.  I wanted to argue knowing that other stores do take them...it's just a manual over-ride like you'd do with a competitor coupon...but since I was already getting the peanut butter for a quarter, I decided not to argue the point.  So, I lost almost a dollar on the coupons I ordered and then couldn't use...but oh well.  Lesson learned. But, I had gotten myself over to Publix last Wednesday right before the sale ended hoping they'd be out of peanut butter so I could get a rain check...because if they still had it, I had not yet gotten my other 7 PP coupons in the mail!  Thankfully, they were out and I got the raincheck, which I used today. (Does everybody know about rainchecks?  They are awesome!)

The good news is I still got the pb for super cheap and I will be donating some of it...but we also eat alot of it, and they're small jars....so don't judge me. :)
